So the dilemma here is whether or not I should drop my math elective, which is Linear Algebra.
Currently my course load is:
AP Physics C
AP Microeconomics
AP Mandarin
US Government
Poetry Workshop
Linear Algebra
I'm really unsure about dropping Linear Algebra. To me, at least, it is extremely boring and dry, and the teacher usually grades extremely harshly (I had him the previous term for Multivariate Calculus), so my overall average is going to drop (he gave me a 85, when my overall average was a 95). And, I'm probably going to retake the class in college b/c he does not teach very well. Would colleges care if I drop the only math class in my schedule, and how is my course rigor?
Honestly, second term senior year, I would rather have less work. I am going to maintain my grades though. Would it be wise to drop the class?

You’ve already got three APs, so it doesn’t seem likely to hurt you if you drop linear algebra. Are you planning to replace it with an easier class, or do you simply wish to take only five classes? Would your courseload still be strong in comparison to junior year if you drop linear algebra? What does your counselor suggest?

If your teacher is as harsh and incompetent as you suggest, then it probably is indeed to your benefit to drop the class. (Multivariable calc=impressive, by the way)

I’m probably just going to have 5 classes.
My junior year courseload was:
AP US History
AP BC Calc
AP English (Metaphysics)
Pre-calculus
Mandarin
Biology
Modern Physics
So I think my junior year course load was definitely harder than my senior year.
My counselor was indifferent about it. Many of the seniors in our school opt to take really easy classes during senior year like Watercolor or Acting. So, relative to them, I have a pretty difficult course load.

You should take a math class since so many colleges require four years of math, regardless of if it is linear algebra…

I mean, I’ve taken the majority of the required math classes.
Algebra, Geometry, Trig, Pre-calc, Calculus BC, Multivariate Calc
Don’t most colleges just require you to take it to Calculus?

If you’ve taken Calc BC, I’d say that you’re pretty much golden. Don’t take the class if its going to suck, take something that you’re willing to stick with until graduation!
