I began as a transfer student from a community college where I was a student athlete. I got most of my gen eds out of the way before transferring to a four year university in food science. Going into my junior year I was very excited to start working on courses that would apply to my major. But it was very disappointing because I find many of the required classes to be extremely uninteresting, and the department does not offer many electives they mostly want us to take classes in other departments.
Through my year at the four year university I have been apart of a few research project which are very interesting. Unfortunately, all of the research I have been apart of are graduate advisors and only teach graduate classes. My issue is that my classes are boring as hell and feel like they will have very little application to careers paths I am interested in. I like doing research because it feel relevant. But, I still have three semesters left (including this one), and am reluctant to do much more because the department is making it extremely difficult and time consuming to get any class credit, on top of an already lengthy process. This is basically the only part of being being at the university I am enjoying at this point.
I am just running out of energy to put into classes because I find them to be extremely boring and irrelevant and am wondering if Im not in the right major because many of my friends who are my age are telling me about how much they like the classes they are in because they’re basically all within their majors.
