Senior Recommendation Letters

Hi Guys,

I was wondering whether I should have my sophmore honors english teacher write me a recommendation letter or a senior year teacher. So far my other rec. letter has come from my 11th grade AP phyiscs teacher but none of my other junior year teachers knows me too well. My soph. teacher wrote an amazing rec. letter for my summer camp this year, but my counsellor told me that a soph. rec letter would "pack enough of a punch" and adminsons might not think too highly of it. What do I do!? Thanks

First of all, what is your academic profile? (Your GPA, test scores, percentile/exact ranking in class, class schedule and etc?) Second, which schools are you applying for? Third, how much more familiar are you with your sophomore Honors English teacher than your senior English teacher? Typically, a teacher you know more can write you a positive recommendation letter, versus a teacher who hardly knows you at all who will write you a less-than promising recommendation letter.

Unless there has been a tremendous falling off in grades from 10th grade, go with the teacher that knows you best and would give the best recommendation.

My GPA is around 3.53
I’m in a very competative school and I will have completed 12 AP classes by the end of senior year.

My top schools im applying to are: NYU, Carnegie Mellon, USC, U. of Michigan and UVA. My SAT right now is only a 1920 but I’ve been studying pretty hard and retaking it October, looking for somewhere around a 2200.

Thanks for your replies guys
