H Physics (B-)
What do you guys think of this schedule? (workload, viability).
Honestly, you’re not doing that great with your current schedule. (UW GPA in the 3.3 range). I notice you’re doing worse in your STEM classes, so I would cut out AP Physics C and not do the 0-7 schedule. What colleges are you looking at?
@snowfairy137 I am looking at Texas A&M or UT, to study either aerospace or civil engineering.
I have to Physics no matter what so I can’t really remove it. AP Calc is the same (however I’m doing AB, not BC). Having to do a STEM major in college is going to suck but that’s the way it is.
Why do you have to do physics? Why do you have to do a STEM major? You don’t seem all that enthusiastic about it. And STEM classes in college are very hard even if you do well in high school STEM classes. I agree to not get rid of AB but Physics C is extremely tough. I don’t know about Texas admissions so idk if your GPA/class rank/all that will get you in, but make sure you have safety schools.
If you absolutely have to do AP Physics C I would cut AP Environmental Science, and maybe one of the economics or government classes (although you seem to like social studies so idk). Remember you also have colleges apps senior year.
@snowfairy137 Yea, Ik college apps are Senior year so I plan on working on it during the summer. I have to do STEM (well not stem, just engineering) b/c my parents are paying for everything (and I prob won’t get any scholarship money).
I have to do Physics (b/c aerospace) and I picked APES because I don’t have any other AP STEM.
My comment about AP Environmental Science still stands. Its seen as a class that’s generally not very useful anyway and for you, judging from your grades, having two AP sciences isn’t a good idea. Drop 2-3 AP classes, including APES, take 7 classes instead of 8, and be prepared to work your butt off in AP Physics C and AP Calc AB. Use this opportunity to raise your senior grades bc most colleges will see your 1st semester senior grades, and your GPA right now is not the best.
Based on your current grades, you should lighten your senior year load. Don’t forget about college applications in addition to class work. Drop 2 classes.
@snowfairy137 your GPA right now is not the best.
Yea, its not great but out school weights it so it ain’t too bad(class rankings).
@itsgettingreal17 Don’t forget about college applications in addition to class work.
I plan on working on that during the summer. Also in your opinion which 2 classes should I drop?
Environmental science and microeconomics.
Top schools don’t expect more than 4 Ap’s senior year
AP English IV => assuming this is AP Lit, take honors English, unless you’ve not taken AP English language
AP US Gov => should be a half class, take either AP Econ as your second semester class or take AP Comp Gov
AP Physics C => take AP Physics 1 first
AP Calc AB
AP Environmental Science => drop
AP Macro AP Micro => drop the one you’re not taking alongside AP US Gov
Aerospace Engineering
Are you top 10% in your class?
With a 3.3 I doubt it but it depends on the weighting your school uses.
nevertheless it’s unlikely to get you into UT or TAMU Engineering.
Look at Southwestern, UT Dallas (especially if you have high test scores), U Alabama (especially if you have high test scores).
@MYOS1634
I already have comparative government
AP Physics 1
Well they say BC is better for engineering.
take honors English
Well I find AP English Lang to be quite easy so I think I can handle lit.
- it’s unlikely to get you into UT or TAMU Engineering.*
I already have auto-admit to TAMU, but it’s UT that I am aiming for. Other then that possibly my safety would be UT Dallas.
The main reason I am doing so many AP is because I want to have at least 14 AP classes by the time I graduate.
Good for Comp Gov.
Yes, but AP Physics C is the second level in the sequence; you need either Physics Honors or AP Physics 1/2 before you take Physics C.
AP English Literature is very different from AP English Language - it’s literary analysis and it’s based on classical literature. If you love reading classical novels, poetry, and plays, it’s the class for you, but even with a love of reading and literature + excellent reading and analytical skills it’s still a very time-consuming class. I think it’s a great class but not typically the type STEM kids enjoy. In addition, if you receive a 3 you don’t get anything that AP English Language wouldn’t give you, credit-wise. If you receive a 4 or 5, You’ll get 3 more credits than for AP English Language.
Regarding TAMU/UT Engineering the issue isn’t TAMU, but Engineering. If you’re top 10% you’re admitted to TAMU automtically based on your class rank June junior year, BUT it doesn’t admit you to Engineering. Same thing for UT. If you’re not top 10% it gets really dicey.
Engineering (and CS) tends to be much more selective than typical admissions. At TAMU, you may have Blinn Team but if you’re CAP’ed at UT you cannot Engineering after CAP’ed.

I have taken Physics Honors (may not have made that clear, my bad).

I have actually read many pieces of classical literature. When I was in middle school, I was a part of a book club that frequently read books such as The Jungle by Sinclair, The Bell Jar by Plath etc. etc. Even though my time is very limited, I continue to read a lot.

Yep, thats one of the reasons I take a lot of AP. My school does ranking by weight(Reg-4, Honors-4.5, AP-5) and my weighted was 3.89 (top 20%). However, my GPA for the first semester of my Junior year was 4.25 (my GPA from Freshman and Sophmore averaged was 3.76). I hope that by the time time next year rolls around, my GPA will increase dramatically (I had only taken 1 AP class in 9th-10th, while I am taking 6 AP + 2 Honors in my Junior year-and not doing too bad.
However, I do recognize that my GPA is extremely low (and so is my ranking). I am hoping to get a good SAT score (coming out in a few weeks). I made a 1460/1520 on the PSAT in the fall so I am hopeful for a good SAT score.
