Hi hi, I am currently a junior and senior schedule programming is due for next week. My intended major is Environmental Policy / Studies (with a social science emphasis) because I intend to enter law school after. I already took AP Environmental Science this year and I am not sure if another science class is needed. I am stronger in English and social sciences than I am in science in math. However, due to the fact that I don’t want to be brain dead my first year of college by taking a break from math, I am going to take AP Calculus
My planned schedule is as follows:
AP Gov/Econ (1 semester per subject)
AP Art History (I still need my art credit to graduate and have a strength in Art History from Academic Decathlon)
AP Calc (sad face)
AP Psychology (stronger in this type of subject)
AP Lit
Finally, I will either do a period of academic mentoring through a program at our school to mentor and guide at-risk youth who are not on the path to graduate. This is a daily class period.
OR
I continue with water polo for the 4th year. I am not good and don’t have a future playing college sports, but I am hesititant to quit because of how much time I’ve already invested in the sport.
Is quitting water polo a good choice?
Does my senior course schedule not match my choice of major?
Thank you all for your help.
ok wow sorry I was typing this really fast and I found a lot of grammatical issues please don’t kill me lol
AP Biology or AP Chem would be a strong addition…
I’d also recommend not doing AP Art History…it’s a lot of reading/work, with very low 5 rates and in general isn’t too topical to your major. Have you taken AP Human Geography, AP World History, AP Comparative Government, AP European History or AP US History before? I’d also recommend looking to take an AP in a foreign language if you could. Also, is “AP Gov” for AP US Government and Politics? Lastly, does “AP Econ” cover both Advanced Placement Economics test (Micro and Macroeconomics)?
“Econ” is one semester of an honors course. Not AP. Yes “AP Gov” is AP US Government and Politics. I really wanted to take an AP class for art credit one way or another to put myself ahead of my peers with my class rank. AP Art History is a new class offered at my school as of next year, so I don’t expect it to be too challenging. AP Art History isn’t topical to my major, but it is an art credit class, which I need to graduate. I chose AP Art History because I guess you can say that I have a strength in Art because I’ve medaled in Art History for my county.
In the past (including this year) I have taken AP Human Geography, AP European History, AP English Language and Composition, AP US History, and AP Environmental Science.
I only have room for 5 APs because I have to decide between water polo and mentoring for the 6th period.
Would AP Biology still be advised to take even if Environmental Policy is technically a “social science” subject?
Thank you so much for your help.
@apollo11
No clue as to how I’d even be able to that…or why I’d be that trolly…
Anyway, AP Art History sounds fine then…I just didn’t like having to read sooo much for ritt.
Also, great to see that you’re comfortable with a rigorous schedule.
The AP Biology recommendation stemmed from AP Bio’s ciriculum being focused around “real-world applications of biology”, especially in terms of ecology, evolution and genetic moditifaction, but that really varies by teacher, so it’s really not a big deal if you don’t take it. It does, however, certainly look like a harder science course that really buoys up a schedule and matches your major.
Lastly, 5 APs is totally fine for senior year. Remember, you’ll have to be applying to colleges then; you don’t want to be super-burned out. Find APs that you’ll get As in and that won’t be too much work. Also, try to find ones that you’ll get 5s on by the end of the year, but that’s just gravy.
Thank you so much. So when it comes down to the decision, choose AP Bio vs. AP Spanish? @apollo11
I’d say AP Bio would work out better for you, given how it is the more valuable AP to most colleges and has generally a lot less work to get a 5, but the margins are close enough that it really doesn’t matter too much if you choose AP Spanish.
Thus, I’d confer to you, and urge you to just pick whichever one has the best teacher/classmates/window view
