Sorry in advance if I haven’t posted in the right forum but I’m currently a junior and this is what my schedule roughly looks like for my senior year:
AP US Gov. and Pol. Comparative with Economics Honors
AP Psychology/P.E.
AP Environmental Science
World Literature and Creative Writing
3 music classes (since I attend an arts high school, I need 3 for my senior year)
Health
but I don’t know if I should take AP Calculus AB or AP Statistics. According to my schedule, which math class would be appropriate? And I hear a lot about how AP Stat doesn’t “look good” for admission in a top school, is this true?
One last question: in your opinion, does this schedule in any way represent a “rigorous course load”?
Thanks in advance!
I can’t attest to the rigor of your course load since I’m STEM-oriented and you seem to be humanities/arts-oriented.
Definitely take calculus instead of statistics. AP Stats is a fantastic class (I don’t know if colleges look down on it and I don’t care, it’s incredibly useful) that is absolutely necessary for anyone looking to go into research or any STEM major. However, it’s no replacement for a real math class. Take AP Calculus.
Thanks a ton, I think I’ll go for AP Calculus also because regular calculus interests me and I’m doing pretty well in the class right now. I wish I could take both but that wouldn’t work out in my 10-period schedule.
In case you’re thinking of going into STEM, I’d definitely suggest AP Stats over APES… APES doesn’t really teach you anything (it’s like one chapter of AP Bio) although it is considered an easier AP class.
Heck, I’d suggest stats over APES for anyone. Although the class itself isn’t exactly thrilling, it’s definitely one of the most useful classes I took.
I agree with @Stanccepted. I would take AP Calculus and switch AP Stats in the place of APES (if you can).
^^ this.
AP Calc for sure, then replace APES with AP Stats.
