Hey,
I am applying to several boarding schools this year, including Exeter. By mistake, I sent a science teacher an e-mail intended for the math professor (from the same school). I already apologized, but I don’t know how this will make the science teacher look at me. HELP!
Just think from the teacher’s point of view: They receive a ton of emails per day; between 25 and even 50 perhaps. Therefore, they are very efficient with their emails, and don’t put a ton of effort into each individual one. If they did, it would take forever, and they have a lot to do. I would assume the reply that teacher wrote you took between 15 seconds to one minute. Trust me, they will likely assume it is an honest mistake. Do you really think that teacher will email the head of admissions, and be like “don’t let @applier1 in to our school?” No. You’re fine; it’s an honest mistake.
Think of it this way… People make mistakes all the time. It’s how you handle them that you will be judged on. On a scale of mistakes, this is completely minor and understandable. While I’m sure that this is a mistake that wouldn’t be held against you, the fact that you owned up to it and apologized gives them a chance to see that you know how to handle such situations.
