Hello.
My parents are separated and getting close to file for divorce. I live with my mom and she doesn't get much for child support. For Questbridge or any other financial aid program (from colleges or otherwise), do they count both parents' incomes or just the parent you live with?

Sorry if I'm asking lame questions, it's just that this has never happened to me before.

FAFSA asks for the financial information (income and assets) of only the parent you live with. Schools that ask for FAFSA only (state Us for instance) will not require your father's information.

If you are going to apply to private schools (like Yale?) that require profile they will want custodial and non custodial parent information. I don't know about Questbridge so hopefully someone here will be better informed about that.

Questbridge requires the filing of the CSS profile (see point # 3). This means that they will be looking at the income and the assets of both of your custodial and non-custodial parent.

There's something called the "ambiguous non-custodial parent strategy" you might want to investigate. It just legally reduced a family's EFC from $20,012 to $15!
