Who knows what happens?

That's right, my birfday! :) The big 1-7. I'm so excited. <birthdays333

congratulations. are you going to have a party?

I'm having a party, but I can't have it until the 29th because a lot of my friends have conflicts on other dates. :)

haha that's my first day of school.

nice. i turned 16 yesterday

My birthday is on the 8th. I already got basically all my presents already though (money and a massive amount of prep books) rofl.

haha, i got prep books for my birthday too. but they were all kaplan and five steps to a five so i took them back.

My birthday too!
I'm a year older though. And in college. Why am I still on this board?

^ you're addicted and you love it (as am I...)

XD

It kinda sucks that my b-day is on a Monday this year but it's okay. :) I'm sure I'll still have a good time.

you septembers are nothing against us february'ers

Here's a question from a curious mother: how much do/will your parents spend on your bdays? Especially if it is a significant bday, 16 or 18? I think I am terminally cheap, and maybe my kids think so too.

lol if you have the money why be cheap, its your kids big day. birthdays, especially the big ones come around only 1ce. if you have the money, do something extravagant to make them memorable.

my parents usually spent what they can. they got me a leather jacket / box seats to a yankees game and a little money.
ierno, i was happy.

thought counts, BUT, if ya have the money, do something nice. ; )

Wow! We spend about $40-50 and call it a day with a cake. I'm not letting my kids see your post ^

My parents aren't TOO extravagant, but birthdays at my house are always memorable. Normally we get like one big thing from our parents and then the little stuff and/or cash/gift cards from our siblings/grandparents, etc.

For my 16th, I had a party. My parents bought me Seasons 1-4 of Gilmore Girls on DVD and my dad also bought me this really beautiful gold necklace that has a heart pendant on the end and there's diamonds around the outside of the heart (I'm pretty sure they're real, but who knows?).And we do NOT get jewelry like that very often, so it was really nice.

For my 13th, my dad bought me this really beautiful ring that has a sapphire on it (my birthstone) and two small diamond clusters next to the sapphire. I wear it all the time, the only time I take it off is to clean it.

I agree, just make it memorable. Cook a nice dinner (or take them out if you can't cook), get them something they REALLY want. For example, I believe this year I'm getting an iHome (speakers for your iPod but you can also set it as an alarm clock).

And if you don't have a ton of money to spend, I'm sure your kids will understand. Don't worry too much, just think about what they want.

haha dont worry, they got the seats for free and the leather jacket on a huge sale. i didnt tell that to all my friends tho =P

We do always make a huge deal of it - just not with presents. One of the things we have done is everyone writes a poem for the birthday kid. Over the years, these poems have taken on a life of their own and ppl have dressed up, used props, etc. Just a little shy in the present dept. I guess.

I'm sure if your kids thought you were cheap you'd know. :) Remember that sarcasm is often just a way of humorously expressing what someone really thinks.

i got clothes for my 1st-3rd birthdays (my parents probably spent about 200 dollars per year), toys for my 4th-9th birthdays (my parents probably spent about 150-200 dollars per year), a bike for my 10th birthday (150 dollars), nothing from 11-16, and then a car for my 17th birthday (10000 dollars).

so that averages out to about 700 dollars a year, haha.

oh, and i never had a party. but sometimes we would go out to eat, or whatever. we dont really make a big deal out of birthdays or other holidays.

Hmmm...I got nothing for my 16th birthday. Course, I was traveling with my mom in Norway at the time, so that was supposedly my present. I don't agree, though...she used frequent flier miles so no money was actually spent on me. Lame.
