September 2010 ACT Reading Discussion

^ Ugh, tell me about it… I don’t even remember seeing “getting warm” as one of the options!

^ What question are you guys talking about?

^ Why did the guy step into the Wright bros.’ tent?

oh yeah, i remember i choosed get warm

You choosed? hopefully your english section is ok

I don’t remember that question at all!!! OH NO!

I remember something about why the guy visited… and I put to observe their progress…

^ Yeah, it was the same question as that. I don’t remember “to get warm” being a choice either…

It was a choice but I never even fathomed it the possible answer LOL

So what was the answer?

^ Apparently, “to get warm”.

Oh, I put to get warm on that one :DD
I was about to put to observe their progress at first but I re-read the beginning of the passage and it said something about W.D. Bingle being at the station to ‘get warm’ and to get something for ships that sunk at sea. (The other option was the get something for railroad trains, so it wasn’t right)
So apparently he happened to pass by and became interested in their work o-o

And I don’t know how some of you can remember the question/answers word for word.

Other than the whole pride vs reliant debate (personally I think it was pride, but I can see the reliant side of the debate), I think this is the only question discussed in this thread that I may have gotten wrong. I said that they weren’t upset because they had already accomplished what they had set out to do or something like that… I’ll find the sentence from the passage in a few minutes. What did you guys put for this question?

^I put what you put Browniez

That’s what I put too. Why might it be wrong?

Cool. I think the actual wording wording of the answer was something like they weren’t upset because they could build better and stronger planes and because they could dream of time and distance and altitude records. I got that based off this quote from the passage:

“We could build better and stronger and more confidently another year. And we could go back home to Dayton and dream of time and distance and altitude records, and of machines for two or more passengers, and of the practical value of the heavier-than-air machine. For we had accomplished the ambition that stirred us as boys.”

Idk, cuz one guy seemed to think it was the doug thing and then someone else agreed with him and then there was no more discussion of the question.

I just wanted to make sure because I think there is a decent chance I may have gotten a 36 on this section :)

Sorry for double post

The question asked which was not a reason they were not upset. The choices were like

-They accomplished what they originally set out to do (true)
-They had all winter to create a new plane (true)
-They could now spend their time dreaming of higher altitudes and greater speeds (true)
-Something about some guy flying it (I put false)

^ Where did it say they anything about doug never having flown the plane and were therefore upset?

I put the other guy not having flown it as the answer.

^ It didn’t mention anything about another person flying or not flying a plane. That’s why this wasn’t a reason they were NOT upset.

Oh crap, now I remember the question. Yeah, I put Doug, sorry about that…
