September 2013 act thoughts??

it was my first time taking the ACT. I prepared using the red, official ACT book and Barrons 36. I usually get an overall score of 30-32 on the practice tests but I found that the actual ACT exam was more difficult than expected.

For Math and Reading:
I usually finish 5-10 min to spare but I ran out of time. For Reading I had to guess the last 3 questions while for Math I had to guess the last 10 questions. I found that reading was average while Math was really difficult. For math, there were questions I was not familiar with and I had no ample time to finish.

Science:
I thought it was average but I had to guess on the last 3 questions because I had no time left.

English:
It was what I expected. I had 5 min left to check.

Essay:
It was alright. I didnt expect much because Im not a strong writer.

What were your views on this exam?
Was it more difficult than past exams?
Was Math harder than usual??
I'm afraid that running out of time and screwing up the math section will get me a lower score. Any thoughts on the curve?

I’ve taken the ACT once without writing before (I want to say last may maybe?). I would say in comparison to last time…

English: This was a little bit trickier that last time, but I somehow got a 36 on the first english I took. There were a few questions which I was a little bit concerned with, and I definitely took longer than I usually do. That being said, I didn’t think this section by itself was that bad, but I probably missed a few because it’s first and early morning…yeah.

Math:First 45-50 were easier than they usually are, but the last ten or so were potentially life threatening. Math is usually my best (typically around 34’s on recent practice tests) but there’s absolutely no chance I got that on this one. I think I had 40 questions done in the first thirty minutes and I still managed to run out of time. Easily the hardest math test I’ve seen, hah.

Reading: Personally, I thought the reading was pretty easy. I know I missed a couple, but my reading abilities are generally questionably, and I didn’t have a lot of issues with this. There were a few tricky ones though.

Science: I noticed that a lot of people thought this test’s science section was difficult, by I don’t really know if I agree. There were a few questions that threw me off (mainly in the section about the soil, and maybe one or two in the one with the cylinders) but I thought it was pretty standard.

Not really sure how I felt about the essay. Personally, I had trouble writing a ton on it. I had some solid points, and a few references to quotes etc but I only had two body paragraphs. So that could go either way.

Overall I’d say the english was a little bit tougher than the last one I took, the reading and science were both much easier, and the math completely screwed over my composite haha. Hopefully we’ll see a nice curve on this one. A lot of my friends (who are very intelligent) guessed on 4-6, so I’m sure the curve won’t be too harsh. Or at least I hope.

Yeah I agree . Math screwed me over I’m hoping for the best and expecting the worst . Hope the best for you

Math was easily tougher than the worst test I had taken. I normally have around 8-10 minutes to spare. But I ran out of time here. Btw my form is 67B.

This test was pretty reasonable with the exception of the math section in my opinion. I typically score 34+ on math practice tests, and I was fairly confident on this test after finishing the first 40 questions with slightly under 30 minutes left for #41-60, but I still managed to run out of time and had ~8 math questions to guess on. It wasn’t even my lack of preparation. They just tested incredibly irregular concepts. Sigh, not at all an accurate representation of my mathematical ability. ;____;
