^^ Two words, coolweather – AdBlock Plus :)>-
I haven’t seen ads on CC in years.
Hmmm…where are you seeing this ad? I visited a dozen or so pages and am only seeing school ads.
^ On the left pane and on the top pane of the page. The ad continuously show scrambled words in motion when I navigate to another page. I still saw last night but I have not seen this morning. It shows college ads now.
I don’t think it’s neccessary to block CC ads. CC ads are very professional and pleasing. They are not invasive like popup ads on major network news or other web sites.
I just installed AdBlock Plus but I am not sure how long I will keep it. Media web sites including CC need ads to survive.
It’s better for the media to design ads in non-invasive ways.
Thanks for the nice comment. The school ads are actually sent to us directly from the institutions themselves (and you may have seen them on other sites as well). As for the other ads, such as AT&T, those are served from a different network and simply fill in when a school ad is not available.
I’m seeing lots of ads for the University of Maine. I wonder how that works?!? My daughter is a HS junior, and she just talked to the school reps at a college fair last week.
They are very often geo-targeted, though beyond that there is no further targeting (i.e. the ad system doesn’t know your daughter talked with the school rep). Wouldn’t that be something if it did?!
I just added talk.collegeconfidential.com domain to my Ad Block Plus whitelist settings. I see Evergeen State College now.
ATT ad comes back now. It seems it only comes out at night.
Got logged out on computer & tablet yesterday.
Maybe a small message under “keep me logged in” to the feect that it’s only for two weks?
Thanks. I haven’t heard back yet regarding the specific reasons for the two week expiration, though I suspect it may be a security measure. If it does remain we can probably include some verbiage like this.
