I’d go on webmail (webmail.umich.edu) and migrate your account to Gmail (since you’ll have to do it anyway since they’re getting rid of the IMAP system over the course of the year). Just go on the ITCS and follow the steps concerning migration (PM me if you have trouble/questions).

Then, just log in as a gmail account from the settings. Much easier, and it’ll save you from migrating later this summer.

Hmm, I may be doing this wrong then… since I am a new student, I think I already received the Gmail account.

I looked it up again, and tried these directions. Yet now it keeps asking me for my exchange account password, and every time I type it in, the message just pops up again!

Don’t use the Exchange thing, it doesn’t work for some reason. I just went to “Add Account” → Gmail. Then type in your @umich.edu email address in the email field, and your Kerberos password in the password field. That worked for me.

Yeah but it only started working after I migrated my account. Try doing that if you haven’t already. I’m also an incoming freshman, and I had to do the migration (got the @umich.edu email address back in December).

Once that’s done it should work just like any other gmail account.

I am looking at the Michigan GMail page… it says that all new students (after March) will automatically be set up with Gmail. I also don’t have access to the old email system. So I do believe that they may be still working out some kinks. I have emailed IT, and I’ll keep CC posted on what happens.

From a computer, I’d like to ask you to sign completely out of your umich google account (click on your email address in the upper right of the screen and select the sign out option)

Once signed out of google, try to log in by using the following link

This link bypasses the account verification at the university and attempts to have google verify your account with the information on their end (how mobile devices connect). If this login fails, it means that the password information at google and at the University are not sync’d.
