Hey, the topics for the pro seminars have been released and I was wondering what past students thought about the professors (in particular Hrebenak and Vreeland). Also, can you gain proficiency in Persian purely through the college? Thanks

Also, I have read the rate my professors scores and so should I be running away from Hrebenak’s class as fast as possible if I want to keep my GPA up?

I’ve yet to see an overall to easiness disparity that large.

Haha, well, if anyone deserves it, it’s Hrebenak.

I never had him for his proseminar, but I did take his higher-level course, The Military Instrument of National Power. It was, no joke, more challenging, humbling, and time-consuming than any graduate school class I took (same field). I expect the proseminar to be similarly rigorous, though probably not quite as overwhelming.

Having said that, I would gladly shell out hundreds of dollars of my own hard-earned money just to listen to Hrebenak lecture. There’s a big cost to taking his class, but it can pay off in spades. It’s the only class where I’ve ever gotten a B+ and been proud of it.

I’ve never had Jim Vreeland as a professor but know him in a professional setting. Personality-wise, he’s very engaging and gregarious, and he takes a real interest in students.

No idea about the Persian. You should email Farima Sadigh Mostowfi at fsm7@georgetown.edu and ask.
