Share The Best College Essay You've Ever Read

I can't be the only with a lack of inspiration and motivation at this time. So...I think it might be helpful if we posted links to some of the best college essays we've ever read, if you happen to have any on hand. I think what I'm struggling with is how to pick a clever and compelling topic. I want to write something outside of the box, yet also revealing about myself; however, I am just really unsure how to go about this. I think it'd help to read some great ones.

I'll start:

Here's a great one to check out that I read in English class. I'm sure many of you have seen this before.

College Application Essay - Urban Legends

So post away! Thanks. :)

Just wondering, what about that made it the best essay? I personally found it to be a slightly boring, long-winded laundry list of achievements.

I think it was supposed to be satirical, as he most likely has never done half of what he said he did. It’s “creative.”

OP: That wasn’t actually his college essay.

@centralmassenior did you read the whole thing, or just skim it? it is satirical and very ballsy lol.

yep…posted before seeing need34orabove’s comment, but exactly that. It may not be the best essay I’ve ever read, but it was very good and I can’t think of a better one at the top of my head right now haha. I do like it very much, though.

Yeah I had a feeling it was a satire, but I just didn’t really find it amusing. Ballsy, yes.

I don’t understand why people think this is such a great college essay (I didn’t actually click the link…I already know what it is). It’s interesting, sure, but it doesn’t say much about him other than that he’s probably fun to hang around with.

Reading other people’s essays has never helped me much. One of two things always happens:
a) I’m a better writer than them and I start thinking my essays are better than they actually are.
b) They’re a better writer than me and I feel awful and start thinking my essays are worse than they actually are.

@halcyonheather, sure that’s all true, but at least it is a breath of fresh air from the classic “Sweat dripped down my face. Heart racing. I was about to score the game winning goal.” I do agree it could reveal more about him, so to speak, but I think it does reveal his witty personality and sense of humor which are favorable attributes a college would like to bring onto their campus.
