We only use glass or stainless steel containers; for taking things or gifting I have a sleeve of rectangular recycled paper takeout boxes with flaps that close – kinda like a bakery box. I can write on the outside and the inside has a wax coating to make it relatively waterproof.
Most used kitchen gadget, hands down, are shears/scissors.
Don’t know if use spices when you cook–I use many and I found that an organizer was the best way to know where everything is. I’ve got a drawer that’s dedicated to spices (in alphabetical order–I know, I have a problem.) Anyway, these organizers really made my life easier. I have two side by side in a drawer by my stove. https://www.crateandbarrel.com/neatmethod-acacia-wood-tiered-spice-rack/s600653
I bought a drawer insert for my spices after seeing this setup used by the previous owners of our house. The inserts come in several sizes and can be cut to fit the drawer.
I definitely need a better spice solution. Currently they are lazy susans…and falling off because they are too crowded! Harder when the spice containers are different sizes (a grocery store version vs a Costco sized version!)
I had an extra rubber dishpan and decided to put it on bottom shelf of my side/side fridge (above the build in veggie / meat drawers). It has items for me, that tall husband would not need. Really helps keep things from getting lost at back of bottom shelf.
I don’t know if they’re this brand, but I have several of these for organizing things in my pantry, in my kitchen cabinets, and in my bathroom cabinets. Depending on how tall your cabinets are, can really increase how much you can store in there without wasted head space.
This jar opener really works. It helps break the seal of the jar and makes the jar easy to open and works on pretty much all different-sized jars. I love it!
Same here. I have the biggest interior space you can get in a home fridge, but that makes it very difficult to get things from the back. My entire fridge is organized into bins. They kind of naturally group together. Condiments, hearty salad ingredients, syrups and jams, yogurts and other dairy, breakfast stuff (precooked bacon, sausage, the wraps we use). Sometimes the bins change over time, but it’s easy to keep the fridge organized as well as to just grab a
bin when cooking.
The upper left is saved for meat to be used in upcoming dinners and the upper right is for leftovers to be eaten.
One of my most used and favorite things I’ve redone in my kitchen is a coffee station (and I don’t even drink coffee). We had a desk/office space (I think it was popular to put into kitchens for a while, but I really don’t want my office to be in my kitchen) so we pulled out the desk and put in a wine fridge. We aren’t big wine drinkers, so it also holds other beverages and cream, creamers, etc. On the counter over the fridge, I’ve added a tray that holds a canister with coffee, a french press, a battery-powered frother, and a couple of mugs. In the cabinets above, I keep coffee, Choffy (my beverage of choice), tea, sweeteners, and other coffee-type stuff. And for some reason, that’s where the dog treats and meds also reside.
In the pantry I’ve replaced the free standing shelves that were too deep with some Wall Control slot boards. They’re similar to peg boards only better because whatever accessories you use with them don’t fall out or pull up. I have an assortment of shelves, mostly 4", 6", and 9" deep and just two 12" deep because I don’t want things to get “lost” like always happened on our deeper shelves. One shelf unit comes with a paper towel holder, too.
The company often offers specials and you can also find Wall Control on Amazon.
I also was told this by a friend and it’s great!- eat talenti gelato and then use the containers to store nuts, leftovers, etc. I put chicken soup in them and bring them to friends.
