Looking for creative ideas for our high school graduation. Please share what your schools are doing (not individual family celebrations, just the schools’ plans). Thanks!
The two HSs where we used to live are going in different directions. One is doing a live graduation in the football stadium with grads and parents only, with social distancing, live streamed for other family members to watch, scheduled for early August.
The other school is having seniors sign up for individual time slots and will be giving each student their diploma. Seniors are to wear cap and gown, they will walk across the stage when their name is called, flip their tassel, and walk off. It will all be recorded, edited together, and broadcasted as a whole.
D’s class has just under 300 students. School just announced plans for a live, in-person event at a 17,000 seat indoor arena for early August that is 30 minutes from home. I am pretty disappointed because we have a drive-in in our town that has offered to host a video graduation on the screens and our school said no, opting for an in-person event. The issues I see are low-income of our of work people unable to pay for gas to get there or parking, maintaining social distancing to keep people from sitting right behind you, and cleanliness of railings for folks going up and down steep concrete steps. Not to mention, our state is still fully shut down so who is to say if the arena will even be able to open by them and, if they can’t, it will be too close to students leaving to reschedule something else.
