D is an incoming freshman from California. We want to ship some of her stuff ahead so its there when we/she arrive. How is that done? Where should it be addressed? Where do you go to collect it?

Thanks

Hey, Stanford78! We keep missing each other at BC events! We ended up at the last orientation in July with our son. It was terrific and he’s anxious to begin. Here’s information about mailing stuff to our children: [Campus Contact Information Guide - Boston College](http://www.bc.edu/a-z/directories/contact/guide.html)

Thanks! We decided to take the last orientation week. Hopefully they’ll have saved some spots in the classes she wants to take!

Hi stanford, I’ve never had to mail my stuff before, but I think you can just go ahead and send it to her student address… I mean I’ve gotten big packages before that I got sent here so it should be fine.
It depends on where she lives, you can get her address here [Campus Contact Information Guide - Boston College](http://www.bc.edu/a-z/directories/contact/guide.html) and then you can pick it up at the corresponding building, here https://www.bc.edu/content/bc/offices/reslife/lifeinhalls/residencehalls/mailinginfo.html

you can ship to the dorm mailing address, but beware, it will be crowded on that last weekend, i.e., long lines for pickup at the mail rooms. The lines are even longer since the upperclassmen descend on campus and they get in line to pickup their books (via Amazon or other online sellers).

Another alternative is to ship stuff to your hotel if you are hanging around for a couple of days. UPS and Fedex Ground are pretty consistent, and the hotel will hold the package for you. Plus, if you have a car, since you can put it in the trunk, drive to campus, drop it off and let the local sherpas (aka Welcome Wagon) carry it upstairs for you. (you’ll have to schlep it from the campus mail room.)

I usually check onboard (the plane) the stuff we absolutely have to have on Day 1 (e.g., bedding), ship some to the hotel, and other misc. stuff to the dorm mail box.

If you do ship to campus, ship early. So much stuff arrives in the last day or two, the staff gets behind in sorting it all out. Thus, your boxes may be there, but until it is sorted, no one can pick it up…Also note, that pickup requires a print out of the e-mail notice that your child will receive, once they’ve sorted.

Welcome to Chestnut Hill.

Do students select classes in previous orientations?
I’m worrying if there would be some spots left on classes I wanted to take. I will attend the last orientation.

Dear pinewu : Yours is a common question - limited slots are opened for each orientation class thereby increasing your chances in late (like Session #7) sessions to get into your desired sections. That said, Boston College can be very accomodating - right down to the freshman levels. Bottom line : do not worry about this one!
