How many egregious errors can you find in this advertisement put out by the ETS (Educational Testing Service)/Houghton Mifflin? And these people are judging our children's writing!

There’s no excuse for errors like that. The sad thing is that I see these types of mistakes more and more frequently in newspapers and online. Whatever happened to copy editors?

Wow! That really is appalling!

Downright horrifying! I see errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, spacing, and more. It is particularly ironic that it is an offer to help write college application essays.

It reads a little bit like one of those emails assuring me that all I need to do is allow them to put their deposit into my bank account and I will be generously rewarded.

I had to quit reading. I kept looking for The Onion header. AACK.

Where are the copy editors? At newspapers, at least, they’re being laid off.

I like it when they write: “In seconds, the web-based system provides annotated diagnostic feedback and a holistic score to both student and teacher empowering students to quickly review, revise and resubmit essays.”

They didn’t bother to put their own ad through the system.

Does anyone know if this is a real published ad by Houghton Mifflin? It’s actually located on eloqua and I couldn’t find it with a google.

it would be even more frightening if they did!

A teacher I know received it via email. What is eloqua?

Eloqua seems to be an internet marketing agent. [Learn More about Eloqua?s Expertise in B2B Marketing Automation and Lead Generation](http://www.eloqua.com/about/)

Here’s a follow up by Forbes magazine. The bit about the advertisement is at the end of the article.

It isn’t clear to me that the College Board or the ETS wrote the text in that ad. Actually, it looks like it was written by a life coach named Ohilda Holguin Perdomo who works for Riverside Publishing.

I’m not a grammarian, but I don’t see any blatant errors on [this ETS page](http://www.ets.org/criterion/ell/about/).

I stopped at this:

I teach ESL and it looks like English wasn’t the author’s first language.

I cannot tell you the last time I finished a book without errors. So sad.

Misleading title and article. Sensationalism at its worst.

I laughed out loud at “Are Your Student’s Prepared to Write for College?” :D
