It appears a SBCC student commited pre-meditated mass murder last night in Isla Vista. SB sheriff reporting 6 victims dead (plus the suspect) and 7 in hospital. The suspect posted a video on YouTube before the shooting saying he was going to make girls pay for not loving him and having sex with him. Apparently he had posted lots of other stuff online previously that alluded to how troubled he was. I am absolutely horrified.

There is nothing wrong with US, there is a lot wrong with HIM. Maybe his parents bought him the gun or he took it from their home, as was the case in the Connecticut school shootings.

From the UCSB newspaper site: <a href=“Multiple Shootings in Isla Vista | The Daily Nexus”>http://dailynexus.com/2014-05-23/shots-fired-in-isla-vista/

Horrifying. How did people not see this coming?

oh my.

prayers for the victims and families.

This article has a lot more detail. He was apparently a very privileged child of a Hollywood director but, yeah, he couldn’t get girls so he decided to lash out. I tried to watch the video (look it up on YouTube) and couldn’t bear to listen to him.

<a href=“Elliot Rodger 'kills 7 in drive-by shooting near UC Santa Barbara' | Daily Mail Online”>http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2638049/7-dead-drive-shooting-near-UC-Santa-Barbara.html

Horrific and tragic for the victims and their families. I wonder how long this video was up on YouTube and whether anyone saw it before he started this rampage.

That video was truly chilling, complete with his maniacal laugh. So sad for the victims and their families.

That video was so creepy. I could hardly stand to watch it. I am sorry for the victims and families too.

Tragic. My thoughts are with the victims and their families.

I read through the site mentioned in the Daily Mail. It was chilling an disgusting. The murderer is not alone in his thought process.

This is horrifying and tragic. This young man clearly had deep rooted issues that went untreated.

@trojanchick99, that’s what scares me. So I guess everyone who harbors such hate and dreams of acting on it (or actually does) is mentally ill? That would make rapists and serial killers and terrorists mentally ill as well. I’m no expert, but when I watched the video of this kid, I didn’t think “crazy,” I thought “spoiled, entitled brat who can’t handle not getting everything he wants and thus wants ‘retribution’ for all the wrongs allegedly committed against him in his life.”

My daughter lives in Isla Vista, we were in Santa Barbara with her last night on State Street, had dinner and she drove home; she called us about 15 minutes after we left and told us there had been a shooting…didn’t know how bad it was last night!! She is thoroughly freaked out, and needless to say, she and her roommates were up all night! So sad that these young adults need to experience such a tragedy!! My thoughts and prayers with everyone involved…

Well, I thought “crazy”. The cadence of his talk, the laughter, the wording, the “logic”.

There are plenty of spoiled, entitled brats. The crazy ones are those that then go off and kill a bunch of people because of how they feel.

No sane person would do that.

@SockerMom, YIKES!
Our son’s apartment looks down on The Habit. DS was not home when it happened, but had to go around the crime scene tapes to get back. So far no one he knows was physically hurt. Yes, tough for the young adults, because someone will know someone. Plus, it is a friendly community, so people will know people… Excitement for graduation kind of goes out the window.
Thank goodness DS had sense enough to have an email waiting for us before we turned on the news this AM

If I had met him when I was in college he’d have scared the daylights out of me after one conversation. Considering the way he thinks about women, I can’t imagine what he would say to one.

Actually, his videos scare the daylights out of me now, a grown married woman.

My niece was a student at VT during that shooting and my son’s good friend was on his way to class in the building during the NIU classroom shooting. The effects, even for “bystanders” and tangentially related students, can be long-lasting. For those of you with loved ones who are part of the UCSB community, don’t be surprised if emotions run high for quite a while.

This is absolutely horrifying. Any info on those unfortunate victims? Are they all students?

Sickening. There are no words.

I just watched the “Retribution” video on Youtube, and holy hell he’s one narcissistic ***hat. Made my skin crawl to watch the entire thing.
