Hi all. I’m applying as a transfer from the University of Miami (Top 50) to the following: Northeastern (D’amore McKim), Boston College (Carroll), Cornell (Dyson), RPI (Lally), Tufts (CAS - Econ), UPenn (CAS). I was wondering what my chances look like if anyone has any ideas.
I’m only a freshmen and am deciding between Finance/Accounting and Economics.
High School:
4.25 GPA
660/770/700 SAT
National Merit Scholar
30 AP Credits – So, I have sophomore standing I guess.
College:
First semester GPA - 3.94 (Marketing 201, Economics 211, Philosophy 130, English 105, Business 101)
Second semester MID-TERM GPA - 4.0 ( Management Science 311, Accounting 211, Business Law 212, Communication 250, English 106)
I also work 20 hours per week, have an internship 10 hours per week, in a few clubs, etc.
Any opinions would be much appreciated.
Shoe-in at Northeastern, Boston College and RPI.
You would also likely be accepted to Tufts.
I forgot the requirement at Dyson, but if you meet all of their course requirements, I believe you would likely be accepted as well.
Whether you can get into Penn depends on your rec and essays etc. but I guess they may wonder that you just want to get in and internal transfer to Wharton, so you need to persuade them why you apply to CAS instead of Wharton.
You can’t transfer to Wharton as an incoming transfer at CAS.
My bad, I meant the double degree option. It’s a backdoor and everyone at Penn knows it. Some people do the double degree and then drop their CAS degree so that it’s precisely an internal transfer.
At the moment, I quite like their PPE program. But obviously, the dual degree program is an option as well. Will advisors shut me down if I try to do a dual with Wharton?
@villuhfc why PPE? Your academic record so far is geared more heavily towards finance/econ. You stated that these are your interests as well. Many people use PPE as a way to make their reasons for transferring sound good (because it’s a unique major). If your demonstrated interests are not consistent with PPE, I would be careful to list it as your first choice major. Of course, if you’ve found it truly fascinating over your time at college then disregard my advice!
Also, how you are able to get good grades and still work those many hours a week is impressive. If your work is meaningful, you should just show that in your essays and activities section, apply to CAS economics, and hope for the best. I think that good old economics is more suited to your background than PPE (even if you choose to focus more on the “E” as you progress through the major).
this is a year late, but do you mind sharing where you got in, villuhfc?
