Should I accept a loan?

My major is Political Science and I am down to choosing between 2 schools. Elon or VCU

VCU gave me $23K and I would basically go there for free
Elon gave me about $40K and I would have to take about $10K loan

I know that VCU is what I can afford and graduate debt free but when I tell people I get into both schools its always like OMG you got into Elon ?! that’s amazing!
I know that I would receive a quality education at Elon especially as a liberal arts major but I just dont know if it is worth giving up a full ride to VCU ?

I’d go with the debt free option. It will give you more options and flexibility down the road.

It depends how much of a difference it makes to you. If you are happy with VCU, then don’t take out the loan. $40K total is on the high side, and you should do it only if you are certain that things will be a lot better at Elon in terms of your program and the university. And then you would go into it knowing full well that you will have hefty loan payments for at least 10 years after graduation. Try a loan calculator to see how much your payments would be. In other words, go into it knowing exactly what you are getting into financially.
