Should I apply ED?

So just to clarify, if you apply to early decision for a school, you cannot apply EA or ED anywhere else?

So I took the SAT and ACT once in July and got pretty good scores (for me at least), 32 ACT and 2000 SAT. I’m most likely retaking both before applying to colleges but if I apply ED I would have to stick with the 32 ACT. Should I just go for it and apply ED somewhere? To be honest I haven’t done much research of any schools yet but I’m applying to top schools and Ivies (I think I’m qualified for them). But I feel like if I get into somewhere like Brown or Stanford I would attend in a heartbeat. So should I just take a jab at it and apply ED to a school like Stanford or Brown and send in the 32 without waiting to see if my newer scores would be improved?

Every school has it’s own policy usually clearly stated on their web site.

For Brown you may apply to other nonrestrictive EA programs.

You really need to research these schools, attend an info session at each, etc. before applying ED.I know this helped my D craft her essays. Not knowing any other details of your resume, while a 32 ACT is excellent, it is going to be "average"for Brown & “low average” for Stanford.

I agree…those are great scores, but not for the tippiest top schools. Most likely at this point you are just picking schools you have heard of, not ones that really match what you need. If you apply ED with those scores, you won’t get in and will have to scramble. I would find something closer to your scores if you are going to apply ED.
And yes, you are probably qualified for Brown but so are thousands of other kids so they pick from the best of the best.

@csdad I know I should visit but then I live in California and all the Ivies are on the east coast :frowning:
@bopper Even though I’m average should I still take a plunge at just 1 school and do ED? Or just not do ED at any school? Since my stats are average, would I have a better shot at a school to apply ED and compete with the top notch applicants or no ED?
btw I have a chance thread with my full info

Honestly due to the fact that you are asian, you are going to have a very tough time getting into any of those colleges.

So i would say apply ed somewhere a little lower than the ivies/stanford, or raise you act score a few points.
