I have a 2.8 weighted right now. I'm starting senior year with taking 3 AP's (calc, chem, and stats). I was wondering if i should just go to CC then transfer to a UC or try to boost up my gpa above a 3.0 and try for a UC. Or should i just go to state. I have about 200 hours of community service and a SAT of 2260.

The 2.8 is holding you back for a UC, other than that 2260 is excellent. Good luck on those 3 APs

UCs don’t look at senior year grades when deciding on admission. Your weighted GPA as of right now is what they are going to use.

Do you have any intermediary options? Why not look into some of the CSUs or some private colleges, if your family can afford them? I am always reluctant to recommend CCs immediately to bright underachievers, because there is no evidence that you won’t continue to coast once you’re there, instead of making the GPA that would give you strong transfer options. That test score might actually get you some decent scholarships, despite the low GPA. Figure out how much your family can afford, and look around for some 4-year colleges that you can get into. Unfortunately, the UCs have a minimum GPA requirement. My underachieving son got into our state’s widely-respected flagship university with a similar GPA to yours and lower scores.

Depending in your work ethic and commitment, you can go either way. If you’re an overachiever and highly confident in your abilities, I’d to the CC route. You can boost your GPA and in 2 years get into a school you might not get into right out of high school. If you’re not sure how you’ll react to the CC atmosphere, I’d go ahead and apply to CSUs. You can always transfer out of there as well. Again, there are other factors that could tie into your decision, and make sure you weigh them all accordingly.
