Should I apply to other colleges?

I’ve already applied to Duke University ED and am still awaiting that decision. My second choice for college is the University of Washington, and I am currently writing essays for it. My question is should I still apply to other colleges, or do you think that I can consider UW a safety to the point that I don’t need to apply to other schools?

Here are some of my stats for reference
36 ACT w/ writing (single sitting)
4.2 weighted GPA
4.0 unweighted GPA
Class rank: 4/334
9 AP classes
Senior Year: French IV, Calc BC, AP Lit, Human Anatomy, AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, Student Aide

Thanks!

It’s very safe. Does U of Wash have rolling admissions? If you can get a ‘yes’ in your pocket before the Jan deadline for other schools, then you’re done. If not, have your test scores, transcript and LORs sent now to at least a few other places. You can save yourself the cost and trouble of writing essays and submitting the applications until you hear back from Duke. If Duke is a no and you haven’t heard back from U of Wash, do yourself a favor an apply to at least one or two other places just in case the unthinkable happens.

UW doesn’t have rolling admissions. OP has to wait for the result till March.

I’d apply to one school with rolling admissions, just in case. Good luck

I would apply to at least one more school - if your goal is Duke, plan to apply to Vanderbilt, Emory, and Tulane, for instance, in addition to UWashington. (Do apply to its Honors College).

If UW is what you want, that’s all you need to apply to. At my info session they said they don’t even look at the essays if your stats are high enough, and yours are. I guess it does depend a bit on if you’re instate or out of state, but not by much.

Thanks everyone! I m definitely going to apply to the Honors College when I apply to UW. Also, I think UW is what I want-they have a Scandinavian Studies program that sounds really fun if I could double major in that and Biology. Technically I live in Colorado right now, but I think I will be able to be in-state (divorced parents, dad’s address is in Washington). I would like to apply to Emory, Rice, and WashU, but I don’t think we will be able to afford them. I need a place that will only take into account two parents (Duke does), because my parents are both divorced and remarried, and at Rice and WashU I know for sure that they take all four of my parents into account. Does anyone know of any other schools where financial aid is calculated based on only two parents? Thanks!

I believe that Vanderbilt takes into account the parent that you actually live with. But check. Not sure if they remarried then spouse income may count.
