Should I bother applying to an ivy league school?

My SAT score was near perfect (2350) and I have a 3.9 GPA (unweighted) while participating in the full IB (international baccalaureate) program. I am going to be a senior in the fall and will therefore be applying to colleges. My SATs and grades are great, but I only have a couple of extracurriculars.

I'm in an art club at school and I take private art lessons at a local gallery. I tutor a student in math, babysit, and volunteer at the community center and humane society.

So basically, no varsity sports, no prestigious awards, and little to distinguish me from others in the way of extracurriculars.

Should I bother applying to any ivy league schools? I would really love to go to Brown.

Yes, apply if you want to. Sports and prestigious awards, while helpful, are in no way a requirement.

Yes, you should apply (if you’re willing to pay for it). You have as good a chance as any.

Why not? As long as you sound passionate about the EC’s that you do have, you should have at least a decent chance.

You don’t HAVE to have those things, as said in post #2. The reason why those things help are because they show how interesting you are.

But I’m sure (or rather, I hope) you are interesting - just in other ways. Make sure you showcase that, because that’s what colleges are looking for (especially a school like Brown).

You seem like a decent applicant. If you want to go, then you should apply. Perhaps try applying with their early program if you want to show interest.

You seem to care about the Ivy league brand by making a post asking a question that you have already determined the answer to, might as well just apply even with not the best EC (and everyone has good EC if they think hard enough)

If you can find a way to deal with the application fees and you’re willing to do all the essays, why not?

You should apply to Yale. I think Yale loves people like you. If in April, you get accepted to Yale, just pay me 5 bucks, hehehe

Stranger things have happened.

You should construct a sensible list of schools to apply to, including reaches, matches, and true safeties. With your stats, it is quite reasonable to include highly selective schools like Brown, other Ivies, and other selective schools among your reaches. You have a good chance of getting into a school in that category, as long as you apply to enough of them to counteract to some extent the unpredictability of the the process. You could apply to 6 or 8 reaches quite reasonably, in my opinion.
