Should I buy an Alienware laptop for law school

I'm currently a 1L in my seccond semester. I want something that can do all of the tasks that a law student needs to do (legal research, drafting documents, etc.). I am currently considering purchasing an Alienware laptop because they are reliable. Their warranty is the beat out there. You can get any problem fixed in 24 hours. The devices also have a feature that allows you to quickly refresh in the event that your computer is attacked by a virus during an exam. Alienwares have been known for being heavy, but they now have some models that are more portable.

What do you guys suggest?

When I graduated, my Dell was six years old. Whatever works for you and gives you peace of mind.

You’re drafting documents in law school?

i would recommend a thinkpad.

very reliable and sturdy; i think alienware is even more pricey as well. alienware, last i remembered, used to be more geared towards gaming. it’s not necessary and looks a bit out of place in law school.

for me, i chose a thin, light toshiba with a good battery. i only use it for class, though, and have a desktop so if you don’t have a desktop and only want to use a laptop, the calculus may change.

Tablet with keyboard probably sufficient, honestly.

Alienware is nothing more than a Dell with fancier logos.

As an Alienware buyer, it’s not a student laptop. Overpriced and is designed for gaming. You can get a laptop that could do the job for much cheaper. Most of them are also bulky.

It almost sounds as if you are trying to sell Alienware computers. Expensive high performing computers are unnecessary for law school. Any modestly priced laptop computer with a “word” or similar program is more than sufficient. Heck, you could get by with just an iPad as long as you have an AirPrint compatible printer (and you can get keyboards for iPads). You only have a few classes that require submitting papers and legal research is done through services on-line, so the most important thing for that is access to good internet service.
