should I consider applying to biophys program with 3.68 gpa?

Hello everyone,

I am currently an undergrad (senior) at the University of Michigan, and I recently taken a liking to the prospect of studying biophysics in grad school. I've been told, however, that this is a pretty competitive field in terms of acceptance, and that a 3.68 gpa (molecular bio degree) may not cut it for the better programs in the field. Does anyone agree or disagree with this statement? Also, I have yet to take the GRE. Should I perhaps consider a more-biology-less-physics sort of program? Thanks in advance.

A 3.68 is fine! Your research experience is what will get you in.

A 3.68 GPA with a not-so-stellar rest of your app (low GREs, not much research experience, average LORs, ho-hum SOP, etc) may not get you in, but a 3.68 with great research experience, LORs, etcetc might just get you into a really good school. In other words, the rest of your application matters a lot.

Thanks for the info guys!
