Should I do NHS Senior year?

So, NHS at my school is pretty ****ing gay. There's an extremely odd 10:1 girl to guy ratio and its about 1:1 for those who apply. The teacher who runs it is in his 20's and is really stuck up and snobby. I didn't get in last year and I don't really want to do it this year. Everybody who's in it always complains about how stupid it is and all they do is just community service pretty much. I can do that on my own time without being in a stupid little club. However I know colleges like to see NHS as an extra-curricular so I don't know whether I should try for next year.

Just do it, there are scholarship opportunities, but I’m not sure if you have had to be in it last year =/ Just another thing to add to your app. I’m in clubs where I hate the idiots in there, lol.

That seems kind of silly just to do it for your college app.

I think you should just do it. It will definitely look good to colleges and you should take advantage of the opportunity, unless you are positive that you have other extracurricular activities you’d prefer to do.

I’m having a sort of struggle about it too. NHS really doesn’t do much besides bake pies and rake the yard of the historical house across the street, as well as sell candy and wickless candles for reasons I don’t know.

I was invited this year but never filled out the application, because I simply didn’t want to do it. I feel like I shouldn’t join a society that I won’t care about nor put in any effort towards just for a college app. But at the same time it’d give me the volunteer work I am lacking (although if it is mandatory to stay in the club I wouldn’t call it volunteer, maybe community service).

I’m in the top 5% of my class, and I have the grades to be in it. I’m in two other honor societies. I’m after school doing some extracurricular (mainly music related) almost every day of the week until 6 PM when my mom can pick me up. I just don’t think NHS, or at least the NHS in my school, is necessary.

Who knows, maybe I can write about it in an essay. NHS isn’t the only important factor to get one into college if I have others that support myself.

But again, I might be making a mistake.
