Should I even bother?

I'm thinking of applying to William & Mary ED, but my numbers aren't very high.
I really think I can raise my GPA and my SAT scores.
Is it too late to?
Is there any way I can convey to them my plan to improve?

First, what are your scores? Second, are you in state or OOS?

If you don’t think you’ll make it or you can’t afford it, you might want to consider W&M’s Richard Bland College.

Check out their web page: [Richard Bland College](http://www.rbc.edu/)

SAT: 1100/1640
GPA: 3.5
I’m a female and I’m black, not sure if those two things matter.
And I’m in-state.
I’m retaking the SAT in October. And I’m doing two SAT IIs in November.

Well…W&M considers SAT II’s…but they’re not really the most important thing to them.

You need to get that SAT up. Have you tried the ACT?

And is that GPA weighted or unweighted?

No, I haven’t tried the ACT.
Is it looked at the same way as the SAT?
My GPA is weighted. Bad. I know.

Oh…that’s rough. W&M is known for being very holistic, but you would really have to work for it at this point. How rigorous was your schedule?

ACT and SAT are both acceptable. Middle 50% for ACT at W&M is from 27-32 I believe. I have a 32. I found the ACT much easier.

getting your SAT to 1200-1300 would help a lot

GPA is on the low side, but people do get in with that kind of GPA

What really brought my GPA down was my Math BR class and my English class.
At the end of the year, half of my class failed the regents (I was sadly one of them).
My honors English teacher was a very hard grader, with my regents score being a 92 and my final exam grade being a 92, I don’t know how I could have deserved the final grade he gave me.
I also took AP History, but that’s what kept my GPA decent thankfully.

I’ll try the ACT this September. So, the question remains, should I apply ED or should I wait.

If I were you, I’d wait. Your chances are pretty much equal for ED/RD, so you might as well take the chance that you will get your grades up. Plus, if you apply early with not-so-great numbers, then you risk rejection before you can even show W&M what you can really accomplish.

P.S. Sorry about your lame English teacher :(
