I would really appreciate some objective and honest advice about how I would stack up as a transfer applicant next year (assuming they will be accepting them).

I'm a current Freshman at a top state school honors program

HS GPA: 3.95
Top 2% of my class
ACT: 33
ECs in HS: Band (Section Leader) and Baseball
Very good AP scores (which i doubt matters much)

College GPA: 4.0

ECs:
Founded an organization centered on one of my passions.
Selected as a member of a significant financial advisory board for the university
Chosen by the Student Body President to advise him next year on underclassman issues.

Reasons for Transferring:
My school has a good business program but the economics dept is weak and I am very interested in economics.

I have a bit of an entrepreneurial spirit and I would love to start some organizations and collaborate with the strength of students at Harvard. My current school leaves a bit to be desired in this area.

Please let me know if I have a good enough shot to warrant going through the app. I'd appreciate any feedback. Also if it matters I did apply to Harvard for class of 2014 and was rejected.

Well it’s harder to transfer in than to get accepted in the first place (or at the very least, equally as hard). Since you got rejected the first time around, you must ask yourself: What is different this time? I see your GPA improved (and worth more because it’s a college GPA), however, Harvard has many applicants to choose from and they need more than grades. You seem to be lacking in the E.C department. I think they would like to see you start some organizations instead of saying “My current school leaves a bit to be desired in this area.”
Additionally, you may consider transferring into other schools with good economics departments, not just Harvard, because Harvard is a long-shot for everyone.

Thanks for your response. If you look at my college ECs I have started an organization and done some significant things EC wise while in college. Just wanted to point it out.

You shouldn’t be confident about being admitted because that would risk a lot of pain (the acceptance rate is ~3%), but I think you should try your best at least. Based on what you’ve divulged, it’s impossible to tell how good you are of a transfer applicant, but nothing is wrong with the stats you’ve provided… Okay, this post was useless. Best of luck to you.

Yeah I understand that it’s a long shot for everyone. I just want to know if I should go through the effort. you know? I wouldn’t want to waste both their time as well as mine if I’m not at least competitive.

Sure, why not? If you are in a business program now, though, make sure that you are taking a wide range of challenging liberal arts courses. Other courses may not transfer.
