Should I explain my college GPA?

There is a place in the common app to explain any information no reflected by the application and I was thinking to take this space to explain my college GPA.
I am currently a freshmen and am going to apply to transfer in as a sophomore. My highschool GPA was 4.7 weighted and my college GPA is a 3.0 (2 B+, 2 B-). This is because my college is very non traditional and I had a hard time adjusting to the program.
Since there is such a big discrepancy between the GPAs I was wondering is this warranted an explanation essay or should I just leave it alone.
Thank you so much!

I wouldn’t recommend putting this in either the Additional Information section or your essay.

Generally, reasons for lower grades should reflect something that is more out of your control, like a health issue or family matter. Adjusting to college is something that all fr have to do, so it is likely to sound more like an excuse than a reason. The expectation when you reach college is that you are an adult and will seek assistance if you are having academic problems.

I echo entomom’s response.
I had a concussion and that’s what I put in additional info sections for internships. Adjusting to college isn’t an excuse. Sometimes there are no “excuses” because you didn’t do as well as you wanted to. You just didn’t.

Adjusting to college is the lamest excuse ever because everyone has to go through it. Don’t be phony and just say that you wish you had worked harder. Show them that you are sincere by producing a good Midterm Report.

There’s no midterm report. OP is in college. Unless colleges ask for progress during the spring semester to assess the application.

AKA midterm report.

Quite a few ask for a Midterm Report actually, but not all.

That’s why I said “Unless…” I know what a midterm report is, entomom.

econ981 - thanks. I wasn’t sure if midterm reports were compulsory like in the HS admissions process.
