Hello,
I was originally planning to major in a BS in Psychology, but my school only has BA. Do I need a BS in Psychology for PhD in Clinical Psychology? Or does it not matter?
My dad has a PsyD, which is slightly different, but he said that it probably depends on the grad school, but for the most part it doesn’t matter which degree you get.
I don’t know about psychology, but I suspect it’s the same as any other major: the type of degree (BS or BA) doesn’t matter unless the school offers both, in which case there may be some differences with BS indicating a somewhat more quantitatively focused program.
It doesn’t matter at all. What’s important is the coursework that you take, not the letters of your degree. (I have a PhD in psychology).
1NJParent is also correct, but even that doesn’t necessarily matter for psychology. Sometimes the BS at the school is designed for students who want to get a PhD, but a sufficiently motivated student could put together excellent preparation with a different sequence of courses in a BA.
