Should I get an air fryer?

Are they worth it? Do you use yours a lot or is it another appliance that just sits there? Does anyone have a specific model they’d recommend? Thanks!

Yes! Totally worth it. It makes unbelievable asparagus. And steak. And chicken.

Thanks!

Love mine!!! Easy for the kids to pop chicken fingers and fries in; mozzarella sticks, broccoli, salmon…love!

For those that have one, can you cook a family-size entree in one? Or are they more for individual servings?

I have seen a commercial for a Ninja one that is flatter and folds back up against the wall for storage…anyone have that one?

I have this one - COSORI Air Fryer,Max XL 5.8 Quart. You can fit 4 chicken breasts in it (bone in). I am very happy with it - use it a few times a month - doesn’t take up much counter space (have it in a corner) Favorites are chicken (breaded and not), small potatoes, brussel sprouts, and carrots. Has become my only place to make chicken besides the outdoor grill.

^^^^ When people talk about making vegetables in an air fryer - how do they turn out? Like roasted? Steamed? Still crunchy???

At our cottage we have limited cooking space and don’t have working oven - just stove top and grill which largely is fine in the warmer weather - don’t miss the oven really. However this has me thinking if an air fryer would be an idea we might use there.

Does it not heat up a room? Can someone share how long start to end for something like a chicken breast? A plate of french fries? Small potatoes??

The Breville countertop oven I have will air fry and works really well. It’s more of a multipurpose item - with just two of us in the house it was a good option to get. I use my oven nearly every day. This is similar: https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/breville-smart-oven-air

If I didn’t have an oven I would go for one of the Brevilles. My daughter has one in her ovenless studio apartment and it works great (and the newest ones air fry as well).

The air fryer doesn’t heat up the room and chicken can take about 30 minutes. The veggies come like they are roasted (only quicker then in the oven).

I heard that the crunchiness is not there (or not as good as real frying) if you use the air fryer. Is this true?

Like the instant pot thread, an entry air fryer might cost $40 (mine was that and I think it is great) so just get one to try. IMO you don’t want a big one as the power is the same for more real estate. I want a version that heats to 550 but that’s me LOL. Some things just are made to be fried, they are never health foods so just fry them (donuts, and the like, samosas, onion bhaji,) . The air fryer is like a better version of a toaster oven, does a nice job with homemade fries, sweet potato fries, that kind of thing, plus reheating (boxed appetizers) and a little low baking. My big oven is a POC. The little fryer is very handy.

The air fryer is essentially a high speed convection oven. My son wanted one for his birthday (he lives with us.) And I was like, that thing is not living on my counter. Well, guess what pretty much lives on the counter, and not because he wants it there. I’m telling you, asparagus with garlic, olive oil and Parmesan. 7 minutes at 400 degrees. Perfection.

I find things are nice and crispy. We do a plate of fries on 370 in about 7-8 min, depending how crispy you like them.

I’d like to buy one, but after checking on google, I’m at a total loss. The priced range for air fryers really varies. I keep one appliance on my kitchen counters–all the others are in cabinets in a pantry. I don’t need one that is also an oven or pressure cooker. I have a Fager (another brand of Instapot). Any recommendations for a compact, high quality air fryer.

I feel the same way. I don’t have an Instapot so the combo ones are fine but I’m at a loss. Also don’t love the idea of an another appliance always out.

Just used my Ninja Foodi Grill 5 in 1 Air Fryer. I’ll give it a double thumbs up. Sliced up fresh sweet potatoes and made seasoned fries in 12 minutes. Grilled 4 monster burgers and corn on the cob in 10 minutes. Perfection.
Easy clean up
Coming from someone that can cook for 3 or 4 hours at work, I couldn’t give it a better review. $199 and will use it often
