I’m a sophomore. I would like to take my SAT next early fall. I am aiming for 1570+ (i know I know…don’t roast me. I’m willing to put in the time/effort). What are the benefits of a private tutor vs an online course? And what private tutors would you recommend?
What’s your score currently?
@pl215382 well I’ve taken the PSAT and that’s about it. I got a 1390 with absolutely no prep.
Try to take a practice SAT, you should have time especially if you are on winter break still (most people are until Jan 8). Otherwise my advice is tutors work for some people. My brother took the SAT and had a tutor which helped him a lot. I had a tutor and didn’t have as much success. I’m studying on my own now and I’m seeing progress. Maybe it worked for my brother and not me because we had different tutors? But we both do learn differently as most people and siblings. Either way I would try to self study first somewhat hard core and see if you have any progress. Tutors are very expensive. So unless you have the money, try to take a practice SAT and self study. If you still need help then go for the tutor.
My D had a practice ACT end of sophomore year and scored 28. Junior year in January we hired a Studypoint one on one tutor and she took a full practice ACT every Sunday for about 10 weeks. She would go over problem areas with the tutor. We had to ask for a second tutor early on because the first one wasn’t helpful. In April she took the ACT once by herself and once as part of IL state tests and scored 35 and 36. If your parents have the money, it’s a good investment
What was your Math/RW subject scores?
You are so close, if you are aiming for NMS? First, study Khan, Khan, Khan Academy, Free SAT books from school friends! Depend on which subject scores are higher, double your effort on the lower subject score. I believe focused private tutor will help.

Good Luck and Gig’em
@texaggie 710 on RW, 680 on Math. And yes, I hope to qualify for NMS when I take the PSAT next year. But I will likely take my SAT before that
Good, SAT before October PSAT will be good. My D was successful using same method. Because both scores are close and very strong. I would study little more on questions you missed and study 1/2 and 1/2 for M/RW.
