Transferring from Towson University with 24 credits because of March 1st date…
HS GPA: 3.3
SAT: 1510
COLLEGE GPA: 3.63
Do I have any chance at all lol
How many college credits do you have? If you have 30 or more completed, your high school GPA and SATs are irrelevant and not included.
I only have 24 after one semester at college that’s why I need to include them
The 24 credits could REALLY help, especially if you have the required courses to transfer which are outlined on their site…Freshman english, a fundamental studies math (they are specific about what counts, etc). Your college GPA is above the average. If you’re not trying to get into a LEP (Limited Enrollment Program), you could have a good shot, as your GPA in college shows marked improvement.
Do you know where I could find the classes I need to get in? The english/math? @lenmonster
It’s in the transfer guidelines on the UMD site. If you’ve graduated from high school and completed a minimum of 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours at a regionally accredited college or university, we consider you a transfer applicant. Students who have completed fewer than 30 semester or 45 quarter hours at the time of application are expected to submit high school records and SAT and/or ACT scores for review. If you’ve attended more than one institution, we’ll compute a cumulative average for all previous college work.
We’ll consider your academic record and grades received in all college-level courses. Our most successful students have completed an English composition course that satisfies the University’s fundamental studies academic writing requirement and a college-level math course that satisfies the University’s fundamental studies math requirement. Learn more about transfer credits for your previous courses.
In general, while they say “our most successful students” I read somewhere that they will not accept you until you have these two things. My daughter is currently going through the process as well and her math was covered. Make sure it’s a college level math and not a remedial course, as well as freshman english and you should be fine.
I took Math 115 in Towson University. I think that is okay for the math but I am not sure. @lenmonster
What is Math 115 at Towson? It’s likely fine.
It is basic math for sciences… But it says fundamental math on transfer website and not accepted except for newly transferred. I just really want my Math 115 taken Fall 2014 to be a fundamental math. @lenmonster
You’re probably fine, then. The Artsys system doesn’t list equivalencies from one four year school to another…only community colleges to four years, so I can’t tell for sure, but it’s a 100 level course. My daughter’s statistics class fits the bill, too.
It would just stink if I got rejected on that @lenmonster good luck to your daughter!
Lol, Towson’s average GPA for incoming freshman is like a 3.4 and the average SAT is an average of around 1500 ish, I think you have pretty good chance. Don’t give your hopes up show them that you have good EC’s, maybe send in a letter of rec, and create and outstanding essay.
