I have already applied to nine schools. (I'm one of those students who wants to make sure he gets in somewhere.) I thought I had finished with the admissions process when I started getting emails from Emory. Just the usual "apply here!" kind of stuff. So I researched the school a little bit, and learned about the very generous financial aid policies. To make a long story short, is Emory roughly equivalent to Rice in admissions competiveness? If so, I needn't bother applying. It would be superfluous.

Emory and Rice are equally as competitive, I would say. In fact, they are often tied for the same place in the rankings.

I suppose for me, Rice would be more competitive since I am from Houston.

Are you sure you that Rice and Emory will reach the same admission decision? There are a number of intangibles that can come into play.

Keep in mind that Rice has a lower admission rate than Emory. About 18% versus 27%.

On the other hand, I have two Emory students, neither of whom applied to Rice. It just depends on who you are and what you want.

Rice is a fine school; in fact the new (as of last year) Dean of Emory College had been the Dean at Rice.

Both about the same imo
