Should I go to UMICH?

uMich or MIT?
My EFC is 0.
What should I do?!?! :(

If you’re doing engineering or something mathy, MIT (I’m assuming this is the MIT, not something else).

Michigan’s a great school and all, but MIT is in another league. However, if you are instate for Michigan that makes the decision a lot harder. Either option will open up a lot of doors for you.

Personally, I’d go with MIT unless you absolutely love Michigan for some other reason.

Finances for both should end up close.

I assume you’re engineering, science or math oriented. If not, you probably won’t be happy at MIT

In this case, MIT has the better reputation.

But, and this is a big BUT …

Virtually everyone at MIT is engineering, science or math, so you will see much less diversity of academic interests. If a college experience with of diversity (lots of people with different majors and different interests) is important to you, then you would probably be better at a school like U Mich.

Also, if you’re In-state U Mich is a lot cheaper.

Is the difference in reputation worth it? Only you can answer that question. FWIW, my child intentionally did not apply to MIT for this reason, so you have our answer.

remember, MIT is smaller and has a larger endowment. MIT will pay for your education… Michigan can only give you so much and then you may need loans… If your EFC is zero, MIT will def pay your entire tuition (thats what they do if your parents combined income is < 60,000).

Aside from money, MIT has more opportunity for undergrad research/ work with leading professors. PLUS I would argue that the name MIT would gain more attention from future employers than U of M.

Deadmasterr, are you from Michigan? What is your intended major? What will be the cost of attendance at both schools?

Assuming you are not majoring in a Humanity, that Michigan is not significantly cheaper, and that you do not hate MIT, I would choose MIT over Michigan. Simply put, MIT is a notch above Michigan. MIT’s peers are Harvard, Princeton, Stanford and Yale while Michigan’s peers are Cal, Cornell, Northwestern and UCLA.

i smell ■■■■■

MIT or UMich? Is that a trick question?

I’m out of state, and I want to do Aerospace Engineering. So yeah, I’ll go to MIT since it’s a full ride.

^^^There is your confimation of ■■■■■ square.
