I was admitted to both schools recently. I transferred from another university.
Texas State (Excluding rent, food … etc) will save me $10,000 overall.
Apparently , UT is slightly more expensive and then I was offered a small scholarship from TX state .
- It adds up to 10K over time, NOT per year.
I also understand that San Marcos’ rent is cheaper than Austin but I think stuff like that can be worked out. Such as commuting from Cedar Park or somewhere else.
Please feel free to share your thoughts here.
Is the extra $10,000 in loans worth the degree from UT ?
If you are already in college or a parent. Will you please share how you weigh in financial aid packages ?
What is your major? I think that UT Austin has a much better reputation. If you can afford it, go to UT. If you have to commute to UT and had really wanted a campus life experience and Texas State offers that experience then it may be worth it to you.
In my opinion, go to UT and live in Austin west of campus where most students live. You will make back the $10k in your first job. UT students have a great track record of getting jobs. Plus its a great environment.
If it’s 10k over two or three years, yes I think it’s worth the difference.
Thanks guys, just an update. It is a liberal arts degree.
Even more worth it, because for a Liberal Arts degree you’ll rely on your university’s name and alumni network much more.
Thank you for your input.
