Should I list other colleges that I'm applying to when filling an application for particular college

I'm in the process of applying at Marymount University. It has a section where it ask "other colleges applying to." There are schools (on my list one of them is an IVY school) that are more academically developed than Marymount, so how would they perceive this ?

The advice that I have always heard from college advisers is to not list any other colleges you might be applying too. This advice holds for when a school interview asks you in an interview too. The logic I’ve been given is that you do not want the school that is asking the question to feel as if they might be a safety or fallback choice and give them a reason to outright reject you.

I did. IMO, it’s a matter of ethics. Be aware that like knightcub said, some schools might realize that they are safeties and reject you for it, but this is rare. Most schools don’t care enough about their yield to reject a high stats kid. Is it worth it to lie on your application because of the small chance that you’ll get rejected to a college that is probably towards the end of your preference list?

They can ask but you’re not required to answer. It’s not a matter of ethics whatsoever, IMHO.

“They can ask but you’re not required to answer. It’s not a matter of ethics whatsoever, IMHO.”

That is exactly right. The common app also allow each applicant to list all ACT/SAT scores as well, but it is certainly not unethical to not divulge lower scores. Omission of non-required information is completely ethical and normal.
