Should I live on campus?

OK, so I did one year at community college then transferred this past Fall semester to University of Maryland and I'm about to go into my second semester, and I've seriously been considering on-campus housing.

I currently live off-campus at an apartment complex. And while its cool and all, most of the students there are much older than I am (including my roommates) and I feel kind of isolated from fully enjoying my college experience. Another issue for me has been my eating habits. Living off-campus, I've had to find time to cook and purchase food without a vehicle and it was just too much to adjust to all at once, so I've found myself waking up to an empty fridge or looking for scraps to eat in the middle of the night. As a result, I feel like affected my focus and energy throughout the semester. And as stressful as academics can already be, I feel like being on-campus and having a diner in close proximity would eliminate this problem for me.

Also, I've been told so many things about dorm life, but the general consensus that I've received is that I would be missing out if I didn't at least get to experience it once. I've met one or two people in my classes, but basically the only people I talk to on campus are 2 of my high school friends (who live at home).

I just turned 19 so I don't think I'm too old or anything, but is moving on-campus worth it? Or is the whole idea just overrated and I should just stay off-campus?

Dorm life is exciting because it is the first time most teens get to experience independent living. Really, after the first semester or year, it just gets to be boring.

I would see if you could find on-campus apartments and a meal plan that fits you. Dorms are fun, but they can be a pain.

Awh, 19 is not old, especially for dorm life. Apply for housing and see what happens. Definitely start saving up your monies!

I thank GOD that I dorm, I especially love the fact that I have unlimited access to my cafeteria so I eat sooo much. If I had an apartment, I’d find that I’d struggle with food and eventually, struggle with my health. Also, I’ve made friends way more easily and it’s always fun to be in your friend’s dorm and have others in yours. =)

Good luck!!

Yes! You should live on campus! You will meet more people than if you lived off campus. Plus it’s a chance for you to decide whether living in a dorm is right for you! If its not, then you can rent an apartment with a couple of friends and live off campus! Make sure you split the rent though haha!
