Should I major in biomedical engineering if I'm bad at math?

Okay, so, I’m a highschool junior. I really want to major in biomedical engineering because it’s something that genuinely interests me, and I don’t want to be stuck with a job that bores me. However, I would say that I’m bad at STEM subjects (ironic because I’m Asian, lol). I took both the ACT and the SAT. I got a 28 on the ACT, with a 25 in math and a 24 in science. On the SAT, I got a total of 1360/1600, with a 660/800 on the math section. I’m currently in AP Calc AB, and I got straight A’s all year, but a 3 on the mock AP exam we took. I’ve also gotten straight A’s in every math and science class I’ve ever took, and my GPA is a 4.0, but my standardized test scores for STEM are horrible.

I do plan on studying and retaking both the ACT and the SAT, along with the math 2 or 1 subject test.

I’m much much much better at English and History, so I plan on minoring in political science. But I really desire a job in a STEM field. Therefore I’m torn.

Why do you say you’re bad at math? I just looked up some of these numbers, and a 28 overall ACT is ~90th percentile, a 25 math is ~80th percentile, and a 660 math SAT is ~88th percentile. By what metric are these scores “horrible”? You even have As in your math and science classes.

You know you’ll probably have to go to grad school to get a job, right?

Don’t forget that there are tutoring services at most schools, too, especially for engineering programs. Rose Hulman is very supportive of engineering students. you may want to look there.

Yes I’m aware that I have to go to graduate school, however that wasn’t part of my question, so…

Should be a part of anyone’s question if they’re set on BME. Saves them from having switch out like I did.

Chelleshao, you appear to be a new poster to CC. A little advise. Be polite to those who respond to your queries.

@PeterW I was being polite. I was just pointing out the fact that I didn’t ask if I had to go to graduate school or not; although I planned on going anyway. Sorry if you didn’t take it that way, I didn’t mean for it to sound so passive aggressive.
