would it be appropriate to mention that fact that i am bisexual in my essay?
or even put the whole discrimination i had been subjected to as the central idea of my essay?
would this put me at disadvantage?

I really doubt it. In fact could be an advantage as it gives diversity… Just another type of URM

Good essay topic imo.

Just make sure that you deal with it in an appropriate manner - talking about sex in general is risky (risque?) so make sure the focus is on the discrimination and how you dealt with it, what it meant to you etc.

This is just my personal opinion and what I’ve heard from college adcoms I’ve talked to before that they would give you a greater advantage if you were gay vs. bisexual. I don’t really know why, maybe it was unique specifically to the lady I spoke with but if your goal is to gain an advantage from an affirmative action standpoint - tell them you’re gay.

Being gay doesnt really do anything for you

Being gay won’t hurt you.

Being gay won’t help you. Colleges don’t care which gender you have sex with. It’s not the same thing as being a URM.

It is only a good essay topic if you have the skill to write a good essay about it. The point isn’t to go for “oh look, he’s endured discrimination” and get the admissions officers to feel bad, the point is to write a well-developed and well-written essay no matter what topic you have. As long as you know that, go for it.

^ agree completely
