I’m having a lot of trouble deciding. Stanford is outstanding, all things considered, and has been my dream school for years. However, Columbia has incredible academics, and its NYC location is unrivaled in my eyes.
I intend to go premed, and I’ll likely major in either anthropology, economics, or a combination.
My gut says I should attend both simultaneously, but that can’t quite be done.
I actually think most college students overrate what living in NYC would be like. I would personally go to Stanford, but that’s because I love the weather, would love to have amazing D1 sports teams, great engineering, etc.
You can’t go wrong with either of those schools. Congratulations!
What were your reasons for applying to each of these schools in the first place? That would hopefully help clarify things more for you as they are very different schools.
are you paying full freight for both?
Columbia has the core, which means you have more non- premed classes to take than you would at Stanford.
If you like that and the hustle, bustle of living in a BIG city, then pick C.
If you want a quieter “buzz” from living with highly intelligent students who hustle all over the campus on their bikes - pick Stanford.
I think you REALLY need to visit Stanford during accepted student weekend to make your decision.
The two campuses are incredibly different. If you want to go premed, then aim for a school where you can get the highest GPA possible. Med school committees generally don’t factor in difficulty of the undergrad GPA, even at schools with grade deflation.
I don’t know about the situation at either Columbia or Stanford, but I suppose there are majors within each of these schools where it is easier to get a high GPA.
