Should I retake SAT Reasoning or SAT Subject Tests?

I'm not an international student, but I have lived in the U.S. less than 1 year, and English is my second language. My SAT scores are not very good, so I take Toefl and got 104/120 which is okay.

My SAT Reasoning score is 510cr(yes I know it's horrible)/770m/640w
My SAT Subjects are 780MathII/680Physics/630Chem(didn't study)

Since some colleges still accept January score, I want to give it and shot and try to get a better score.

The thing is that I don't know whether I should take SAT Reasoning because there's room for improvement. However, I am really not satisfied with 680 Physics. I'm taking AP Physics B this year so I had to study myself on the stuff I haven't learned yet when I took the SAT Physics last month. I took regular physics when I was in my home country (Thailand) but it was different. I studied really hard on the physics test and thought I can get at least 750+, but it turns out I got 680. I also took SAT Chemistry but didn't study for it at all because I took MathII, Physics, and Chem at the same time. I thought it would be easier to study for physics.

So what should I take? I know that some colleges replace your SAT Reasoning totally with Toefl but then 510cr looks so horrible. I also want to take maybe both Physics & Chem this month or either one to improve my score to at least 750+

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!

Anyone…?

If you are going to apply to engineering schools, which I suspect you might, I would recommend retaking the SAT subject tests, as even the 780 Math II is somewhat weak.

Yes, I will, and that is what I thought I would do. But doesn’t 510 look horrible, or school doesn’t really care if I have Toefl and I’m applying to an engineering major?

i suggest try raising the CR score, and even the W score a little bit, 510 is mediocre compared to your other stats. If you’re positive you can get 750+ on physics, then I’d still consider physics then, but if you improvement in CR is at 650, then definitely retake SAT.

Thanks isk82live. I don’t know if I can get 650 on cr though because, you know, I take long time to read than other people, and my vocab isn’t strong. But thank you very much for your suggestion!

That’s understandable. Get DirectHits, it has 400+ vocab words, and if you’re decent at syntax (inferring what type of word should go in the blank) you should be able to raise your CR score atleast 50-80 points- getting atleast 15/19 vocab questions right. For reading- maybe try to concentrate on the short passages (ensuring you answer those correctly) before moving onto longer ones. If you answer more q’s correctly then it’s in your favor then rushing through the section.

Thanks again isk82live!
