Should I retake the new SAT after getting a score of 1510?

Hi guys,
When I took the SAT, I told myself that if I scored above a 1500 I’d be in good standing in that aspect for applying to competitive colleges like the Ivies and places like Johns Hopkins. After doing so, however, with a score of 1510 (and a 6/5/7 on my essay), I’m not so confident that it’s good enough to get my foot in the door, considering that I’m Asian and with the concordance tables being released showing my score’s a 2190 equivalent. Should I retake the test again in the fall, or just focus on my Subject Tests more?

What is the breakdown between verbal and math?

@sgopal2 760 Math and 750 Verbal, I’m planning to go premed if that helps

@Exwire My daughter got 750M and 760V. She’s done with subject tests. Looking at Ivies. She ran out of time and had to guess on the last 3 math questions. She will retake and focus prep on the math. That said, I don’t put much credence in the concordance. There’s anecdotal evidence to suggest the conversion might be too harsh. As the new SAT scores start rolling in to admissions offices, I think a 1510 will hold up well. Good luck.

If it’s your first or second time taking it, then take it again.

If you told me that the 760 math and 750 verbal was for the old SAT, I would have told you not to bother taking again. But from what I’m reading an equivalent score on the new SAT requires higher scores to be comparable to the old SAT.

Did JHU release the 25th-75th percentiles of their class with the new SAT? If so then just try get a score than is at or higher than the 75th percentile. If you have scores in this range, then you should be fine. If not consider retaking.

That score is in the lower 50th percentile for those schools. Retake and/or add some match and safety schools for your current score. Those schools don’t matter much for med school admissions.
