Should I send a resume?

Hi guys,
I’d like to begin this by saying that I accidentally sent 3 recs to Brown instead of 2, which I’m kind of annoyed about because I know they’ll all be good but 2 of them may be significantly better and the third could dilute my application. So given that I’m already submitting 3 recs, and probably will also submit the research paper because they seem to want it (??), should I refrain from submitting a resume? I honestly have a really great resume, although a lot of it would overlap with the CA activities list, it would allow me to elaborate on my activites in a lot more depth which could be great. That said, I got into Yale EA with just my activities list as is. But I worry I’ll regret it if I don’t submit my resume. I’m excited about Yale, but Brown is neck and neck with it for my top choice, and I really want to put my best into this application. Thank you all!!!

Adcoms won’t read your research paper. An abstract can be enough. But it generally doesn’t get to faculty unless they feel you’re a top candidate. And that’s in all respects. Don’t send a resume that repeats what’s listed in Activities. They don’t have time to sort it out or read more lengthy descriptions. Get your most important ECs in Activities. If there’s one or two that need explanation, just a few lines in Addl Info. But remember, adcoms review thousands of kids annually. They know what most ECs are about. They don’t need every detail.

I know what you’re saying in general about Adcoms not reading a research paper, but are you aware that this year Brown is encouraging all applicants to submit a graded paper from a social sciences and humanities class? That’s the only reason I plan to send it, because they explicitly asked- do you still think I shouldn’t send? @lookingforward

At first, I thought you meant separate science research. Yes, I do think you should send a graded paper. But pick one that shows your thinking/intellectual strengths, not just one with an A++. The graded paper gives them more insight than an essay in the app, which could be uber polished.

If you have Yale, don’t fret too much over Brown chances. Enjoy the admit and just do your best over the next few days.

congrats on yale! I would submit the graded paper for sure because they highly recommend it.
