Should I still apply ED when my 1 SAT 2 test bad?

I am not sure what happened. I got a 580 on the SAT 2 French. I got 770 on the SAT 2 Math.

I really wanted to apply ED to a school that is very selective. The ED deadline is Nov 1 and the decision date is Dec 15. The SAT is being offered again Dec 7. My French teacher is shocked that I only got a 580 and even said it was not possible. So, I thought I would retake it and let the school know I am retaking.

Question is, would they likely just defer me if it is just over that one test score? (I already retook the SAT yesterday, so I do not have the results. My score there otherwise was a 2090, and the school super scores). Or am I better off just applying regular decision? I LOVE this school far above all others. I want to go there so bad! I am afraid that without the ED edge, I won't get in. But I am also afraid they might reject me outright over the low French SAT 2 score.

Tough call, but you really don’t want to apply ED in a very competitive situation with anything other than your “A” game. Ask your GC if they have any insight on what to do here - they might have a good idea how strong your application really is and if the weak SAT II will make a difference.
