Should I submit SAT or ACT scores?

So, I'm having quite the dilemma deciding which scores to submit to Yale. Here is my complete testing history:

ACT (first try): 30 Composite, 34 English, 24 Reading, 33 Math, 29 Science, 10 Essay
ACT (second try): 33 Composite, 35 English, 30 Reading, 34 Math, 31 Science, 10 Essay
SAT I (first try): 2100 Composite, 670 Critical Reading, 650 Math, 780 Writing
SAT II: 730 Math II, 730 Biology - Molecular, 590 - World History

NOTE: I am retaking the SAT I in October, and I may take more SAT II's if necessary.

Also note that my first tries on both the ACT and SAT were without any prep, and I could easily raise my SAT I score to the 2200-2300 range. I think my SAT II's are about as good as I'm going to get them (sadly), but I could still probably get a ~730 on Biology - E. My other two options would be Literature and French (I'm taking AP French this year).

So, would you suggest I send just my ACT, just my SAT, or both?

I realize that if submitting the SAT scores, Yale only requires 2 subject tests, but they also require all scores to be submitted. If I submit my SAT scores, will that 590 in World History look terrible (I got a 4 on the AP exam and an A in the class)?

If they help, here are my other stats:

UW GPA: 4.0
W GPA: 4.3ish (our school doesn't weight honors classes, only AP's)
Class Rank: 1/452
AP World History: 4

I haven't recieved my AP scores for junior year yet (should I contact College Board, or is there still time?). I would predict a 5 on BC Calc, 5 on Bio, 4/5 on Lang, and 4/5 on US History. Are AP scores considered at all in conjunction with SAT II scores?

I would appreciate any input on this matter! Thanks!

EDIT: Also, if it matters, I'm applying SCEA.

When you send Yale your SAT II scores, you are required to send ALL SAT I and SAT II scores. Ditto with the ACT. See below.

[Instructions for Reporting Your Scores | Application to Yale College | Freshmen | Office of Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.yale.edu/admit/freshmen/application/score_reporting.html)

Yes, I realize that you have to send either ALL SAT scores (both I and II) or ALL ACT scores, but you don’t have to do both. If I choose to report only SAT, then I don’t have to submit any of my ACT scores, and vice versa. I’m wondering if you think I should submit my SAT scores, my ACT scores, or both.

Any other advice?

wait wait wait. I haven’t been here in a while, but the last time I checked, Yale was requiring applicants to submit ALL scores from ALL tests taken, both ACT and SAT. So if you had taken both, you had to submit both, if you’d only taken one, you would just submit the one.

Is this no longer the case, or was I wrong in the first place?

it’s kind of confusing but when I asked Yale they told me this: "You can either submit the SAT I exam and two SAT II subject tests, or just the ACT exam with writing. If you wanted to submit both your SAT test results as well as your ACT test results, you are more than welcome to. But you are by no means required to, and you can submit just one or the other.

That said, within the SAT examinations, we do not participate in the score choice option, so we’d like to see all testing history. However, we will only consider the scores that you indicate on your application."

However some people on here don’t think I should follow this advice since I asked on the Yale facebook. But I’m sure that the people who are reading e-mails sent directly to yale are on the facebook account because my friend e-mailed them a question and asked the same thing on facebook and they replied that they had recieved her e-mail and they responded. So i guess you can take this info however you want.

Yale requires two SAT II scores (in addition to the SAT I or the ACT with writing). So, the College Board will automatically send Yale all your SAT II scores AND all your SAT I scores at the same time – you do not have a choice in the matter. You can, however, opt to sent Yale your ACT scores, which I would recommend doing.

No, no, no. They’ve changed it for this year. Two SAT subject tests are no longer required unless you ALSO send SAT I scores. It says specifically on the website that you can take

1) SAT I with two SAT II tests

OR

2) ACT with Writing

Or, you can submit both. But you must submit ALL scores from a designated test (all SAT I and II scores OR all ACT scores).

That being said, does anybody have any advice for me regarding which of my scores to send? And by that, I mean, should I send all of my SAT scores, all of my ACT scores, or both? I’m thinking that I will definitely send the ACT scores no matter what, but I’m unsure about the SAT scores. I think the two 730s on subject tests are good, and the SAT I isn’t bad either (it’ll definitely raise once I take it the second time with actual prep), but I’m worried about the 590 in World History. Will it look terrible? Should I take some more subject tests to sort of take the emphasis off of that one?

As of 08/08/09, if you go to the Common App and click on Yale’s VIEW COLLEGE DETAILS you will find: Standardized Tests Required: SAT or ACT with Writing, 2 SAT Subject Tests

If you go to: [ACT-SAT Concordance](http://www.act.org/aap/concordance/index.html)

Your 33 composite ACT is equal to a 1460 SAT (Sat CR + M). To that score you will need to add your ACT Combined English/Writing Score from your 33 composite score (which you did NOT list in the above info).

If the ACT concordance scores translate to a higher SAT, then only submit the ACT scores.

Alright, well, it’s not really the SAT/ACT difference that I’m worried about. I think, in the end, my scores on the two will be pretty comparable. However, what I AM worried about is the 590 subject test. Will that hurt me even though Yale only asks for two (and my other two are fine)?

And I’m not sure about the Common App instructions, but here is a quote taken from the Yale College Admissions - Important Instructions on Test Score Reporting:

"Yale requires results from all of the SAT I and SAT II tests or all of the ACT tests you have taken. If you choose to fulfill our testing requirement with SAT scores, then it is not necessary to send any scores from the ACT, even if you have taken the ACT. And if you choose to fulfill the requirement using the ACT, you do not need to send us any SAT scores, unless you wish.

However, and this is important, if you elect to use the SAT scores, you must report all scores from all SAT exams (both SAT I and SAT II) that you have taken. If you elect to use ACT scores, you must report all scores from all ACT exams you have taken. And if you choose to use a combination of SAT and ACT results, we require that you report all scores from both agencies."

And another from their Standardized Testing page:

"Yale requires applicants to submit the following testing:

•The College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) SAT I and any two SAT II Subject Tests

or

•The ACT with Writing"

And I have another related question as well. I was reviewing my SAT/ACT histories last night and realized that upon registering for the exams, I automatically had them sent to certain schools, Yale being one of them. So, my question is this: How does Yale go about reviewing scores? Can I still choose to self-report only SAT or only ACT scores on my application, so long as I report all scores from that agency? And then does Yale use my official score reports to confirm? Or must I now report ALL of my scores from BOTH agencies because they were sent automatically already?

As your scores were already reported to Yale when you registered for the SAT, Yale now has all of your SAT I and SAT II scores. After you submit the Common App and Supplement to Yale, you will be able to log-on to their website to check the status of your application. At that time, you will also be able to view all the SAT (and ACT, if you decide to send them as well) scores. Although most colleges ask students to self-report scores, colleges only record scores send to them directly from the testing companies.

Okay, thanks.
