Should I superscore my SAT?

So I just got a 1400 (710 E, 690 M) which I’m pretty disappointed with (especially math), but I already have a 1490 (690 E, 800 M) so I could superscore it to a 1510 (710 E, 800 M). My only concern is that colleges will see my 690 in math and become super weary. Carnegie Mellon (my dream school and the one I applied ED too) in particular loves math much more than Computer Science (what I want to major in). My other schools are UVA, Virginia Tech, William & Mary, George Mason, UMD CP, UIUC, RPI, UT Austin, HMC, UC Berkeley, Georgia Tech. Also, I have already asked the schools and they say they will accept the Nov 2 SAT.

You don’t superscore the SAT, schools do. What exactly are you asking?

Btw, what do you mean by saying CMU loves math much more than CS? You know they have one of the top 3 CS schools in the country/world, right?

(And I doubt they will get tired looking at your scores. Wary? )

Send both.

Be sure to check each of your colleges’ test requirements. CMU is one of the few colleges that still requires all SAT (or all ACT) scores to be reported. So, you don’t have a choice for CMU.

For the other schools, check whether they accept self-reported scores. Often, only the highest section scores need to be reported - it depends on the school. For schools accepting self-reported scores, check your portal to see if there is a way to update your scores there. For the schools that require official reports prior to admission, send an official report of the new score and the schools will do the superscoring. (UC Berkeley does not superscore.)

(You have a lot of out-of-state publics. Hopefully you don’t need financial aid.)

@RichInPitt Thanks for the reply and sorry, by superscore I meant send both SATs, I know the colleges do the superscore but I was unsure if revealing the 690 math was a good idea (I mean it is a 110 point drop…). What I meant by CMU was that in the CS application process, they value mathematical achievement over CS achievement even though you’re majoring in CS (literally told this by two different admissions officers).

@evergreen5 So I have already applied to CMU ED, but they will still accept the Nov 2 SAT so technically it is up to me? or am I legally obligated to send it in? They already have the 1490 so I am wondering if I should send in the 1400 as well.

You are obligated to follow CMU’s requirements. It is not optional.

CMU requires ALL scores so you need to send it.

If you are an intended STEM major, for the schools where you don’t need to send all scores, I would just stick with that 1490 and not send the 1400.

I think it’s fine if CMU has both. Since you got an 800 previously it stands to reason your were focused on the E portion the second time around.
